The main bedroom is nearly finished (except for the wiring, flooring, roller blinds and sealing of a few more plywood walls). The storage drawers and cupboards in the dinette area are nearly done too. I am using every available minute to work on the project (day and night) and am super keen to have the bus up to a 'livable' stage within the next few weeks. It's been a long six months of working around the clock on our future home and I'm very much looking forward to completing the job and taking a break! The storage drawers and cupboards in the dinette area are nearly done too. I am using every available minute to work on the project (day and night) and am super keen to have the bus up to a ‘livable’ stage within the next few weeks. We're doubling down on our efforts to get the project finished. It's six months now since Bronte the bus arrived on our street. I'm hoping to have the bus at a 'livable in caravan parks' stage within the next five weeks. Down the track (when finances allow) we'll be tackling the second stage of the project, adding the solar power system, composting toilet and water tanks. Today's jobs included many hours of sanding and sealing the benchtops, plywood walls and furniture, and the fabrication of six drawers (to be fitted under the dinette seats). The boys went to stay at Nana's place tonight (thanks Mum), so another big day of bus building is planned for tomorrow. We had a rare day off at home today with no working on the bus. It was nice to stop and catch our breaths. We ventured out late this afternoon to the Sandgate foreshore for a long walk and a sit down whilst the boys played on the tidal flats. It was a much needed recharge. It's nearly six months since we bought the bus. We've been going flat out ever since with the bus building (me), working to fund the project and keep us afloat (Sam) and of course juggling the busy responsibilities of parenting. It's been a huge and exhausting effort but thankfully motivation levels are still high. K is holding the extended bench up in these pics... we're thinking we'll drop the height slightly though as it's visually quite imposing (we added height to our benches because we be tall). Also some good progress with the boys' bunks, and more wall framing for the bathroom. Inverter fridge Gas stove Blockout blinds We had a change of mind about our couch at the 11th hour (actually more like the 12th or 13th hour as we'd started building it 🤪). We realised our galley style dining bench was not going to be quite long enough to comfortably fit the four of us, so have scrapped the couch in favour of a dinette (🤨 I'm not sure whether I love or hate that word) which will convert to a spare bed slash really long flat workspace for the boys. Sacrificing some storage but otherwise it's win city! We've insulated the floor under the bed (with polystyrene and an additional layer of plywood) to minimise the heat rising up from the engine and to dampen the engine noise. There's quite a bit of storage space under the bed. We're planning to use baskets under the bed for clothes storage. We've got a split system air conditioner to install on the wall above the shelving. A 'new and old bus' fleet shot from today! It's been a while since our last post but we've been super busy! We sold Alice the Bus last weekend and I have spent this entire week under that bus (in sweltering summer weather) carrying out repairs and getting the old bus moving again. It's been over four years since Alice was started and run, so there were multiple complications to overcome before she would budge. But we got there late today! Alice is now parked up on the street and awaiting a ride on a low loader this week to the country, where she will start a new life as a permanent onsite house for her new owners. It was great to drive the old girl one last time (even if only from the side yard to the road). And the whole street came out to watch the excitement and cheer old Alice on! We've now applied two coats of a liming white 'stain and varnish' to the plywood walls. Just a clear coat of varnish to go and then we can move the furniture back into position for fixing permanently. Worked the night shift in Bronte the bus tonight. We’ve now applied two coats of a liming white ‘stain and varnish’ to the plywood walls. Just a clear coat of varnish to go and then we can move the furniture back into position for fixing permanently. We've started sealing the plywood walls with a clear coat, although we're now contemplating a subtle coat or two of stain and varnish (liming white). The batteries were removed for a good slow charge. It was a great opportunity to clean up the battery storage tray, treat some rust and repaint the whole thing (the photos here were taken before the clean up and repaint).
