Some exciting progress in Bronte the bus today! The dinette is beginning to take shape. And we managed to get the fridge and gas stove up into the bus (with a little help from our neighbours- thanks fellas!). Here’s @littleearthstories inspecting the progress after arriving home from another long day at work (earning the dollars to keep our project moving along). Inverter fridge Gas stove Blockout blinds We had a change of mind about our couch at the 11th hour (actually more like the 12th or 13th hour as we'd started building it 🤪). We realised our galley style dining bench was not going to be quite long enough to comfortably fit the four of us, so have scrapped the couch in favour of a dinette (🤨 I'm not sure whether I love or hate that word) which will convert to a spare bed slash really long flat workspace for the boys. Sacrificing some storage but otherwise it's win city! I've still got to finish the window sills, pelmets and the wall sections either side of the shelving. We are then planning to install blockout blinds in all windows except the top hoppers. We've insulated the floor under the bed (with polystyrene and an additional layer of plywood) to minimise the heat rising up from the engine and to dampen the engine noise. There's quite a bit of storage space under the bed. We're planning to use baskets under the bed for clothes storage. We've got a split system air conditioner to install on the wall above the shelving. A 'new and old bus' fleet shot from today! It's been a while since our last post but we've been super busy! We sold Alice the Bus last weekend and I have spent this entire week under that bus (in sweltering summer weather) carrying out repairs and getting the old bus moving again. It's been over four years since Alice was started and run, so there were multiple complications to overcome before she would budge. But we got there late today! Alice is now parked up on the street and awaiting a ride on a low loader this week to the country, where she will start a new life as a permanent onsite house for her new owners. It was great to drive the old girl one last time (even if only from the side yard to the road). And the whole street came out to watch the excitement and cheer old Alice on! We’ve started sealing the plywood walls with a clear coat, although we’re now contemplating a subtle coat or two of stain and varnish (liming white). It's been slow going, as we're finalising electrical plans as we go (so that we can run the wiring inside the walls). The batteries were removed for a good slow charge. It was a great opportunity to clean up the battery storage tray, treat some rust and repaint the whole thing (the photos here were taken before the clean up and repaint). The last of the insulation was installed over the weekend. We've got 50mm polystyrene in the walls, an air gap, then a three-in-one foil insulation stapled into place. Pine battens and 3mm plywood are going on next to complete the walls. We've also finished installing exterior vents for the fridge and 'rangehood' (a 24v computer fan mounted in the wall), and added the power inlet and access holes for exterior sensor and annex lights. There’s something very satisfying about watching timelapse video of the project taking shape! The last of the insulation was installed over the weekend. We’ve got 50mm polystyrene in the walls, an air gap, then a three-in-one foil insulation stapled into place. Pine battens and 3mm plywood are going on next to complete the walls. We’ve also finished installing exterior vents for the fridge and ‘rangehood’ (a 24v computer fan mounted in the wall), and added the power inlet and access holes for exterior sensor and annex lights. This is the beginning of the main bedroom (queen bed and book shelves at rear). We're planning to insulate under the bed (as it's situated above the engine). The bus starter batteries have been removed for a good charge and the battery box treated for rust. We've also been busy online buying electrical components like power points (double pole), usb charging sockets and exterior sensor lights. With rain falling since the waterproofing was applied, we're calling it a success. There are no leaks in the bus anymore!
